Riyad Mahrez explains two benefits of Manchester City preseasoning in the U.S.

City are training in Houston, Texas, before their first preseason match against Club America on Thursday morning, UK time. After that, they’ll play Bayern Munich in Green Bay, Wisconsin, before the Community Shield on 30 July.

Manchester is experiencing a heatwave, but Texas summers average 38 degrees Celsius. Mahrez likes training in the heat.
“It’s nice to visit new cities. “It’s hot, but it’s nice to get out of our routine,” said the Algerian winger.

The heat is good for fitness. We must adjust. We’re pros, we’ll adapt, and we’ll see.”
Mahrez says City’s high-quality opponents will help them prepare for the new season.

Bayern Munich are a good team, and Leroy Sane is a good player. It’ll be good to see him after two or three years.

“I don’t know if we’ll be 100%, but we’ll be close. We’re used to being busy in preseason, we’re all happy, and we like training and preparing because it’s how we see football.

Mahrez acknowledged the benefits of travel, new experiences, and meeting new people, even for professional footballers.

“It’s great to meet people from other countries and cities, and seeing how happy the kids are is our top priority.”
